From: 29-05-2012 To: 29-05-2012
  • LOCATION:

From July 22nd to October 14th 2012 After achieving great success in Switzerland and Rome, the “Tiepolo Neroexhibition is coming to Venice, specifically to the halls of the Ca’Rezzonico, the Museum of Eighteenth Century Venice. It offers a unique opportunity to admire all the graphic works by Giambattista Tiepolo (1696-1770) together, and, for the first time, the plates belonging to the Fondazione Civici Musei di Venezia, which have finally been restored. Tiepolo, known primarily for his paintings and frescoes, introduced us to a world of colour play and alchemy through pastels that typifies his painting. The collection of plates and engravings, the complete body of work comprised of thirty five etchings, divided into the Capricci series (1733-1742 ca.) and the Scherzi di fantasia (1743-1757) and a selection of prints by his son Giandomenico, who continued the tradition of his engraving, as well as several drawings and sketches relating to them which will definitely surprise the public. The subjects of his etchings remain largely mysterious, with many impenetrable meanings woven together with allegorical and symbolic references. The elements link him to early Eighteenth century Venice, a time caught between late Baroque and the rationalism of the Enlightenment.
