Palace Ca ’Vendramin Calergi, considered by Francesco Sansovino (official historian of the Serenissima Republic) as one of the most important Palaces of the Grand Canal, is a noble expression of the Renaissance in Venice. Palazzo Ca 'Vendramin Calergi consists of a ground floor, with water access from the Grand Canal, from the main floor, characterized by a large central hall and three smaller rooms decorated according to the Renaissance style and the taste of the owners who succeeded in managing the palace. One of the rare gardens overlooks the Grand Canal with a view and direct access to the main Venetian waterway. Designed by Mauro Codussi, the building that Gabriele D’Annunzio in Il Fuoco defined "with an airy appearance like an effigy cloud resting on the water", was completed at the beginning of the 16th century. Its owners, the proud Loredan, had a small phrase of humility inscribed on the facade, as opposed to the grandeur of the building, which had been a motto of the Templars. After several changes of ownership, the palace was the home of the Calergi family, a feudal family of Greek origins, and then of the Vendramin family. The last heirs of the Vendramin sold the palace in 1844 to Maria Carolina Duchess of Berry, a character of the highest lineage as well as daughter of the crown prince of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, grandson of Emperor Leopold II Habsburg and wife of the second son of the future king of France Charles X After the riots of the Risorgimento, the owners were forced to liquidate the building and many works of art went to auction in Paris. Following the death of the Duchess, Ca 'Vendramin Calergi was co-inhabited by the Count de' Bardi and the Dukes of Grace, who hosted Richard Wagner.
