One of the best, and most unusual, ways to discover Venice is certainly from her waters. Better still is to do so from a small, lightweight kayak, thus uniting an open-air activity to the marvels of the Venetian Lagoon.
For such excursions, the best place to begin is a society on the Venetian island of Certosa that organises splendid tours along the Grand Canal, both by day and by night, gliding between the sandbanks and the minor islands, with itineraries that range from a few hours to an entire day.
The island of Certosa can be reached easily from the water-bus (Lines 4.1 and 4.2) departing Piazzale Roma or from the station.
Another society is Real Venetian Kayak a company made and run by Venetians which gives its clients the possibility to visit the city from a privileged perspective- the water- promoting sustainable tourism. They offer kayak guided tours with highly qualified guides to let you sample all the different aspects of an incredible city.
