LOCATION: Via Strada Vecchia, 1 Lido di Venezia
It has been claimed that Henry Ford himself, founder of the eponymous automobile manufacturer, who first suggested creating a golf course in Venice, in the early 1900s. Over 100 hectares of land of the Alberoni district of the Lido, with similar characteristics to the Scottish links, were converted into a splendid golf club that remains popular to this day. The golf club has played host over the years to a number of major events, such as the 1955, 1960 and 1974 Italian Open competitions. Celebrated players have challenged the course, including Arnold Palmer, Severiano Ballesteros, Tony Jacklin, Lee Treviso and Baldovino Dassu. The many trees on the course makes each of its 18 holes a challenge. The well-drained sandy ground can absorb the heaviest cloudbursts very quickly, but the bora and sirocco winds certainly add to the challenge. Venice Golf Club is considered one of the most difficult in Italy. To reach us, take the ferry from Tronchetto for Lido. The Club is on Via Strada Vecchia, 1, in the Alberoni district – just 15 minutes from the ferry stop. The Province of Venice also boasts a number of other golf courses.
