The Fèsta de la Sènsa is the Venetian name for the feast day of the Assumption of Mary.

Venice cares a lot about this feast, in fact, the celebration lasts for 2 days, every year.

The Festa de la Sensa is a annual meeting that makes you relive the important relationship between the Serenissima Republic and the Sea. This is also an occasion to take the oars and start rowing as Venetian used to do and still do.

The Festa de la Sensa celebrates two important events for the Serenissima Republic: the day when Pietro II Orseolo, 26th Doge of Venice, helped Dalmatians who had been threatened by Slavs (May 9, 1000) and the establishment of the Peace of Venice, a peace treaty between the papacy and its allies, in 1177.

For all these reasons the Council of Ten decided to celebrate the Festa de la Sensa every year, on the Assumption Day. Another celebration you should attend on these days is the so-called Sposalizio del Mare (Wedding with the Sea).

Every year, the Doge, on board the Bucintoro (the doge’s official ship), reached the island if St. Elena, where the bishop of Venice was waiting for him. Once there the bishop blessed the Doge, then the Chief of Venice used to throw a ring into the water, as if he got married with the sea.

The program of the 73rd Venice International Film Festival is full of stars and exclusive parties, but the real protagonists, as you know, are the movies. Who will win the Golden Lion 2016?

Twenty are the movies partecipating in the competition to win the Golden Lion, the award of one of the most important kermess of this industry.

The 73rd Venice International Film Festival is taking place in Venice Lido from August, 31st to September 10th and its calendar is full of shows. In addition to the film in competition there are other sections: Orizzonti section (Horizons), open to the new trends and the rising filmmakers, Film out of competition, regarding movies of well-known stars who have already been part of the Festival.

Paolo Sorrentino, a famous Italian director, is waited at the Venice International Film Festival with his new movie, The Young Pope, a miniseries partially set in the Venitian Lagoon. During the Festival, the first two episodes will be showed.

Sam Menders has been elected as the President of the Jury this year, among the Italian actors there are Chiara Mastroianni and Giancarlo De Cataldo.

Venice Lido island, known as the golden island of Venice, is a promontory 12 kilometres long separating the Adriatic see from the lagoon; thanks to such comfortable geographical position, it is a place suitable for staying all the year long, and especially from March to October. It is rich in buildings of 1700s, such as the Murazzi, namely a long expanse of rocks placed there by man in order to protect this narrow promontory, which extends, for half of the island, nearly to the Casinò (closed at present) and the Palace of Cinema, where every year the well known Cinema Exhibition takes place.

Lido was appreciated already since 1820, and just for this reason it was chosen as the destination and residence of several writers and poets such as Lord Byron and T. Mann, who set one of his most famous novels, ‘Death in Venice’, in the well known Hotel Des Bains, representing an exceptional work masterly transposed into the cinema screens by Luchino Visconti. The Lido of Venice is the right choice for those who search for tranquillity, open spaces and relaxing and green landscapes, after spending a whole day among the crowded narrow streets or ‘calli’ of the historical centre.

Along the tree-lined alleys there are elegant Villas built at the beginning of 1900s. With its 12 kilometres of beaches, the Lido is, at present, the less chaotic and the most refined place of the Adriatic coast, becoming the destination of those who long for a relaxing atmosphere. The main feature of the equipped beaches of the Lido is the cabin: it is a big bathing-hut including a veranda and a tent which are added to the closed structure; but if you want you can find also wonderful and original free beaches such as that of St. Nicolò and the Alberoni, with their natural dunes.

This island is also the place where the Venetians and tourists have found the necessary equipment to practice different sports such as tennis, archery and golf; at the Alberoni, in fact, there is one of the best European golf courses. After a good relaxing bathe, a beautiful walk on the beach, or a tennis match, you can end your day by visiting the ancient Jewish cemetery, whose foundation dates back to 1389: it is a very evocative place where renowned Jewish families are resting. Oryou can easily reach the ancient picturesque district of Malamocco, that is a small Venice in miniature, with its canals and narrow streets or ‘calli’.

Villa Albertina is located ten minutes from the boat station to Venice, near the Casino and not far from our wonderfull beach.
The building, completely renovated, offers ten rooms including one balcony suite, all with private bath and telephone. A sunny breakfast-room as well as a bar lounge with TV corner are at your disposal. In our garden, you can park your car free of charge.

Our family has managed this charming little hotel since 1940. Our great-grandmother, Stella, bought this villa from a nobleman’s family, and with her daughter, Maria, converted it into a “Pensione”.

Following in Grandmother Maria’s footsteps, our mother, Gabriella, successfully managed this hotel with the same care and attention for another 20 years. Then, in 1992, we began this work- continuing the tradition of the women in our family!

In 2002 we completely refurbished the house to give our guests all modern comforts, yet without losing our friendly and family-style atmosphere.

A rich breakfast is served in a charming dining room each morning, while during the summer months it is served in the delightful garden. It is a buffet-style breakfast comprising of corn flakes (6 varieties), yogurt, cheese, chocolate cream, various jams, biscuits, orange juice, and often home-made cakes and bread.

If you get to Venice by car, get on the ferryboat and enjoy free parking in our garden. Our hotel has a café, a laundry service, and fax and email services at your disposal. Villa Angelica is a magnificent building dating from the early nineteen hundreds, located on the enchanting island of Lido di Venezia and just a stone’s throw away from the famous Palazzo del Cinema and the beaches. The hotel, that has recently been totally restored, is just a short walk away from where it is possible to board the main water buses that will take you to the historical centre of Venice (St. Mark’s Square, the Rialto bridge and the Biennale) and its islands (Murano, Burano, Torcello).
