  • LOCATION:

From 6 April to 8 July 2012 Palazzo Franchetti From 6 April 2012, at the "PICASSO and VOLLARD. The genius and the art dealer” exhibition, for the first time in Italy, you’ll be able to admire, in the wonderful rooms of the Palazzo Franchetti on the Grand Canal, the 150 works that illustrate in depth the long and thwarted ties between the art dealer Ambroise Vollard and he who would become the greatest artist of the twentieth century, Pablo Picasso. The carefully arranged exhibition route allows you to observe marvellous works of art close-up, including the 100 carvings of the Vollard Suite, the Minotauromachia, perhaps Picasso’s greatest graphic masterpiece, the 30 original etchings for the Histoire Naturelle by Buffon, the etchings of the Saltimbanchi, with the infamous etching ‘Le repas frugal al Chefs d’oeuvre inconnue’ by Balzac. At the very beginning of Picasso’s career, having just arrived in Paris, Vollard bought and sold his paintings to Schukin and Morozov, to Gertrude and Leo Stein, to Barnes and Thannhauser, even to Stieglitz, but most importantly, he ordered and printed some of his greatest graphic masterpieces.
